I am a freelance expert consultant, working across a wide range of public policy fields. I use well-honed research, strategy development and facilitation skills to help places and organisations improve and develop. My clients range from national government agencies to small charities.
Recent commissions have included:
- Assessing the effectiveness and making improvement recommendations for the Local Government Association’s Care and Health Improvement Programme. Integrating adult social care and health services is one of the greatest public policy challenges we face as country. I interviewed policymakers, council leaders, and senior health and care professionals to identify good practice, the barriers to further joint work and how they might be overcome.
- Developing the Oxfordshire Green Paper on behalf of the University of Oxford and the local authorities. This involved interviewing and facilitating round-table discussions with senior University staff, council leaders and prominent business-people in order to craft an ambition vision for one of the UK’s most innovative regions.
- Evaluating UK-wide services for Macmillan Cancer Support, Marie Curie, Prostate Cancer UK and other high-profile national charities. As charities like this move further into service delivery, they want to know if they are delivering effectively and what more they can do. I help answer these questions by conducting objective, constructive, mixed-method evaluations of process and outcomes.
- Writing the Swindon and Wiltshire Strategic Economic Plan, which formed the basis of a ‘growth deal’ with central government and local businesses with over £120m. To deliver this assignment, I led a series of complex negotiations between all interested parties to identify and articulate a series of commercial propositions that would create new jobs.
